Honoree
Danny Abramowicz
Danny Abramowicz

Danny was born on July 13, 1945 in Steubenville, Ohio. He attended Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio and was graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1967. Xavier University has presented Danny with the two most prestigious awards bestowed on a student: the Legion of Honor and induction into the Hall of Fame. In 1967, Danny was drafted in the 17th and final round of the NFL draft by the New Orleans Saints. Danny’s NFL career spanned eight seasons. Some of his accomplishments include NFL leading receiver and All-Pro in 1969. Recently, Danny was voted onto the New Orleans Saints All-50th Team on its 50-year anniversary. He also coached the Chicago Bears and the New Orleans Saints in the NFL for eight years, and was Head Coach for Jesuit High School for three years.

Business opportunities for Danny consisted of several years in the oil industry in executive sales positions. The most rewarding position in his business career, however, was his service as Executive Director of the Joe and Sue Ellen Canizaro Catholic Foundation, for which he continues to serve as a consultant. Danny was the Executive Director of the New Orleans Legatus Chapter founded by Mr. Canizaro, one of the largest chapters in the country. Danny also served on the Board of Directors at EWTN for many years. He called this his greatest honor because of his personal relationship with Mother Angelica.

Evangelization has always been of major importance to Danny. He founded the Monday Night Disciple prayer group for men 36 years ago in his home, and it is still flourishing to this day. One of the Monday Night Disciple Group’s major outreach programs is All God’s Babies, which makes and supplies caskets for indigent babies free of charge. Danny is also the founder of Crossing the Goal Ministries, a popular television program for men that aired on EWTN for over 15 years. He has authored three books: Spiritual Workout of a Former Saint; Crossing the Goal: A Saint Goes Marching On!; and The Road to Spiritual Fitness: A Five-Step Plan for Men.
