Accountant

TITLE:                 Accountant

REPORTS TO:    Financial Manager

DEPARTMENT:   Accounting

LOCATION:         Irondale, AL

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Accountant is responsible for performing a variety of standard, technical, accounting functions including analysis, preparation, and maintenance of routine and non-routine entries to the general ledger of EWTN. The Accountant assists in the preparation of interim financial statements, undertakes special projects and/or reports as directed by management, and works closely with management in preparation of annual audits by the independent auditors.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviews source documents used for accounting, maintenance of ledgers, registers and other records of initial entry, and preparation of periodic and special financial reports, budgets, and maintains fiscal records applying professional accounting principles and methods.
  • Assists in the preparation of daily EWTN cash counts and bank deposits.
  • Reconcile multiple bank accounts.
  • Prepare special account analyses and financial reports as directed by management.
  • Prepare and enter general journal entries and adjustments, with detailed backup; analyze variance reports; and assist in the preparation and maintenance of financial budgets.
  • Responsible for inter-organization transaction with related parties, including billings and reconciliation of inter-organization accounts.
  • Participate in the monthly financial closing process as directed by management.
  • Assist in maintaining the integrity and accuracy of all general ledger accounts.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years of prior accounting experience.
  • Knowledge of GAAP, accounting principles and practices
  • Excellent analytical ability to process routine data rapidly, efficiently and in accordance with prescribed goals and policies

GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director of Operations, the Administrative Assistant will perform administrative duties to support the day-to-day needs of the Religious Catalogue department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide primary administrative support to the Director of Operations, as well as administrative support to the Director of Sales & Marketing as needed.
  • Greet visitors to Religious Catalogue and answers general questions.
  • Answers department phone and routes calls as appropriate.
  • Opens and distributes mail for the department.
  • Orders office supplies for department as needed.
  • Process mail order; Enter DIV 02 orders; Print new orders (packing slips) and distribute to warehouse as needed throughout the day.

Bilingual Content Specialist

TITLE:                 Bilingual Content Specialist

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Bilingual Content Specialist is a member of the Direct Response team and is responsible for helping to drive engagement with our Spanish audiences across the globe, including Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Spain and the US. This person will creation, structure, delivery and manage bilingual content to meet the multicultural needs of our audiences and donors.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and curate bilingual content for distribution across  across multiple channels (direct mail, TV, radio, and digital – email, web,  social, paid media, eBooks, etc.)
  • Partner closely with Direct Response team members to understand campaigns, programs and initiatives, strategize communication solutions and execute quickly and flawlessly.
  • Develop bilingual/multicultural content for fund appeals, stewardship campaigns, acquisition campaigns, digital content offers and a variety of programs. 
  • Ability to write with cultural relevance.
  • Work with the Direct Response Content Developer to provide strategic input on messaging and positioning, ensuring content and communications are compelling and aligned with tone and strategic intent.
  • Assist with the creation and ongoing development of style and voice guides, specific to EWTN Spanish and multicultural audiences.

Closed Captioning Technician

TITLE:               Closed Captioning Technician

REPORTS TO:    Closed Captioning Supervisor

DEPARTMENT:   Program Scheduling & Traffic

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Closed Captioning Technician is responsible for accurately processing the transcript text of a television program into synchronized captions, to be embedded into the program, to allow a viewer to read the dialogue and descriptive sounds. Utilizes special closed captioning equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Upon receipt of a proofed transcript and a post-production program video, the Closed Captioning Technician uses captioning system software to format the text and accurately place captions to match the timing of speech, music and sound effects.
  • Ensure proper screen placement, to avoid covering on-screen graphics.
  • Processes the captions to embed the text on to the disk of the program that will air on television, and routes it to the tape library.
  • As needed, exports to various formats for airing on DVD and video streaming.
  • Maintains organized records of the programs in text and other formats.
  • Reviews broadcast dates to ensure programs are captioned on schedule, allowing other departments time to complete their work before airtime and DVD distribution. 
  • Notifies supervisor of any concerns with tape / graphics / episodes / transcript.
  • Receive live show captions, edit as needed; export to various formats.
  • As needed, proof transcript.

WHAT SKILLS/TALENTS WILL THE IDEAL CANDIDATE POSSESS?

  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in a comparable work environment. 
  • Ability to operate basic video and captioning equipment.
  • Strong computer software skills; including, but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Assists callers in making credit card donations over the telephone.
  • Ensures donors are aware of various donation methods to EWTN.
  • Appropriately responds to donor telephone inquiries.
  • Evaluates and resolves donor and donation issues, including but not limited to, making donations, making address changes, resolving duplicate accounts, removing donors from the mailing list and coding deceased benefactor accounts.
  • Appropriately decides when to escalate complex donor matters to management for resolution.

General Assignment Correspondent

TITLE:               General Assignment Correspondent

REPORTS TO:    Senior Producer, EWTN News In Depth

DEPARTMENT:  News In Depth

LOCATION:        Washington, D.C.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The EWTN News In Depth General Assignment Correspondent works with the Senior Producer and the In Depth team to gather, produce, and present news reports from a Catholic perspective.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Gather, produce, and present general assignment reports of interest to a Catholic audience. Must demonstrate knowledge of current events and public policy from a Catholic perspective.
  • Pitch original story ideas examining the intersection of Catholic Social Teaching and public policy. While the topic is religion, the role is general assignment in that the stories will range from hard news lead stories, to potential investigations, to feature reports. Must have the ability, interest, and flexibility to do them all. 
  • Develop sources and contacts in Washington, D.C. and around the country. Some stories may require regional or national travel. 
  • Collaborate with the editorial and technical teams to provide all appropriate elements for stories (i.e. photos, videos, and graphics). 
  • Execute live shots in the field or in the studio as needed.
  • Use various social media platforms.
  • Stay up to date on current events through newspapers, broadcasts, websites, social media, and Catholic publications.
  • Multi-task and meet tight deadlines.
  • Establish and maintain relationships within the community.  This may include public appearances and covering events of relevance.

IT Support Technician (Tier I)

TITLE:               IT Support Technician (Tier 1)

REPORTS TO:    Director of Information Services

DEPARTMENT:   Information Services

GENERAL SUMMARY: Responsible for the set-up and maintenance of hardware and software, including the following OS platforms: Windows 7, Windows 10, and latest Mac OS.  Will provide a single point of contact for end users to receive support and maintenance within the EWTN Network Environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install, upgrade, support and troubleshoot printers, computer hardware, mobile devices, Windows OS 7 & 10, Office 2013/2016 and other authorized desktop applications and peripheral equipment.
  • Troubleshoot problem areas using diagnostic tools (in person, by telephone, or via remote access) in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide direct end user assistance where required.
  • Install, diagnose, clean, repair, maintain, and upgrade hardware and equipment (including but not limited to PCs, laptops, printers, scanners and cell phones) unless prohibited by existing customer warranties, to ensure optimal performance.
  • Anticipate trends by monitoring and analyzing incoming calls, problems, and support requests.
  • Use approved tools and methodologies to image, copy and configure systems for deployment.
  • Familiarize and train end users on basic software, hardware and peripheral device operation.
  • Take ownership and responsibility of queries, issues and problems (tickets) assigned.

Multimedia Specialist

TITLE:                 Multimedia Specialist

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Multimedia Specialist is a member of the Direct Response team and is responsible for helping to drive engagement with those who support our mission across the globe.  This person is a utility player who is responsible for the development of online, digital, email, video and audio content that supports faith-based campaigns. Designs, codes and formats email campaigns using HubSpot and other content management systems.  Records, edits and produces audio and podcasts for digital campaigns. Assists with web page deployment, developing web content, placing forms and assets. The Multimedia Specialist has excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong project management skills and enjoys working in a fast-paced media environment that helps people grow in their faith and draw closer to Christ.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create engaging written, graphic and audio content for digital channels (web, email, social media and paid media).

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Non-Linear Editor executes the editing of video material for a production, promotional and/or marketing piece.  This includes set up and operation of all editing equipment, video, and audio sources to provide quality broadcast programming.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates with producers on a specific project.
  • Works directly with writer/producer or from scripted pre-formatted materials to perform editorial functions resulting in satisfactory project completion.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to complete editing assigned task (Record Decks, Computer Software, Audio Mixer, Routers, etc.).
  • Compile completion and file all trouble reports related to equipment and present to appropriate parties for further directions.
  • Ensures all projects completed in a timely manner, meeting all existing technical and stylistic protocols.
  • Properly labels all materials and submits to Quality Control. 
  • Maintains knowledge of industry standards, (linear and non-linear, digital and analog) and trends related to post production field.

Production Assistant

TITLE:                Production Assistant

REPORTS TO:   Crew Chief

DEPARTMENT:  Production

GENERAL SUMMARY: The EWTN Production Assistant is responsible for the technical setup and operation of all audio related production functions in the studio or in the field, including interviews, music, voice-overs, telephone interfaces, roll-ins, and any other audio effects that may be required. Works in other production crew positions as assigned, including Technical Director, Floor Director, Camera Operator, Tape Operator, Video Operator, Teleprompter Operator, Grip, lighting assistant, etc.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates with the Director, Producer and Management on audio requirements and setup required for both studio and remote productions.
  • Sets up and positions microphones for talent, music and/or ambient sound as the production requires.
  • Responsible for proper selection and operation of all audio related equipment.
  • Maintains proper source levels (microphones, clip players, decks, telephone interface, CD, etc.) and relational perspective as production requires.
  • Files equipment trouble reports as necessary.
  • Assists in setting up and taking down sets and production equipment in the studio and in the field.
  • Assists editors by organizing, capturing and ingesting media.
  • Assists producers by logging and labeling media, monitoring productions, completing necessary reports, etc.
  • Maintains network public relations with all guests and visitors in studio and on location.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work area. 
  • Regular and prompt attendance.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 2 - 3 years’ experience in TV broadcast/cable production or related field and experience in live audio production.
  • Proficient at Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and other computer programs as required.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The EWTN Radio Producer is responsible for managing all aspects of live and recorded programs ensuring that content meets EWTN broadcast standards.  Develops program ideas consistent with the mission and collaborates with hosts, facilitators and other content contributors. Responsibilities also include performing voice work and facilitating programs.

  • Work in collaboration with hosts, facilitators, content contributors, partners, and call-screener to consistently produce “great” Catholic radio in the tradition of Mother Angelica; Christ-centered, engaging and entertaining
  • Manages all in-show production, ensures recorded messaging and promotional announcements are fresh, timely and on target
  • Takes the lead by mapping future radio shows, prepares and writes materials (as needed).
  • Certify social media push & other forms of show promotion/engagement are on point and ensure show web page is up to date
  • Keeps abreast of current affairs; religious, secular and pop culture
  • Ability to facilitate shows, voice and produce short form messages
  • Establish and maintain a working list of fill in hosts and guests, vetted and available for situations requiring tight deadlines.

WHAT SKILLS/TALENTS WILL THE IDEAL CANDIDATE POSSESS?

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Talent Acquisition:
    • Collaborates with HR Manager and hiring manager to determine needs, develop/modify job descriptions, outline success profiles, discuss recruiting strategy, and provide feedback throughout the process.
    • Sources candidates through a variety of mediums including internet, referrals, networking, colleges and parish outreach to build the talent pipeline to reach our target audience. 
    • Develops ads, screens resumes, and recommends applicants for interviews.  Conducts interviews and gains feedback and evaluations from interviewers.
    • Revises the EWTN website employment page as necessary to create engaging ads and information. 
    • Ensures background checks, drug screens and paperwork is completed for hiring and guides the onboarding process.
  • Effectively utilizes technology to facilitate the recruitment process, including UltiPro software. 
  • Trains and coaches managers on recruiting and hiring practices.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable employment laws.
  • Reviews recruiting and onboarding processes and recommends best practices for effectiveness and a great candidate experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years total experience in Recruiting/Human Resources with at least 3 years of dedicated recruiting experience.
  • Practicing Catholic with demonstrated understanding of the Catholic faith and a passion for EWTN’s mission.
  • Knowledge of and experience with recruiting strategies and tools, i.e. LinkedIn, social media tools, job boards, etc. and stays current with technology and trends.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The EWTN Safety & Security Officer provides campus presence and surveillance to ensure the safety and security of all employees, guests and visitors.  Patrols network grounds on a continuous basis and offers assistance and information to the general public.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs campus surveillance by vehicle or walking to ensure security and watches for situations that could result in injury or loss due to potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Screens all vehicles at the Network entrances and monitors activity at or near assigned post.  Maintains a sense of vigilance for undesirable, dangerous, or counterproductive activities or individuals.
  • Monitors camera activity, fire protection systems and other devices from a control room and dispatches calls as necessary.
  • Relays critical information to other security personnel as necessary.
  • Provides accurate and timely written or verbal information/instruction to all vendors, visitors, pilgrims, or anyone conducting business with the Network.
  • Reviews and has personal knowledge of the Safety and Security daily postings and instructions.
  • Initiates emergency 911 calls as appropriate and directs emergency vehicles to proper location on site.
  • Administers First Aid, CPR, basic emergency assistance to employees and guests as needed.
  • Completes incident and accident report forms as necessary.
  • Transports guests to and from the Birmingham airport.
  • Communicates with and assists other Network departments whenever special instructions for guests or visitors are required.
  • Directs traffic for special functions and some live show events.
  • Participates in department training and drills as necessary.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Security/Law enforcement, military, EMS or related field.
  • Possess valid Alabama State Driver’s License.
  • Possess valid State of Alabama pistol permit or be able to obtain upon hire.
  • Ability to qualify with a firearm.
  • Possess up to date First Aid and CPR certification or be willing to obtain within 90 days of hire date.
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA & NFPA codes and standards.
  • Possess basic computer skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality around sensitive items and security issues.
  • Attention to the needs of others; must be courteous while also being direct.
