Accountant

ACCOUNTANT

Full-time, onsite in Irondale, AL  (not remote eligible)

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT THE BIG PICTURE:

The Accountant is responsible for performing a variety of standard, technical, accounting functions including analysis, preparation, and maintenance of routine and non-routine entries to the general ledger of EWTN. The Accountant assists in the preparation of interim financial statements, undertakes special projects and/or reports as directed by management, and works closely with management in preparation of annual audits by the independent auditors.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Review source documents used for accounting, maintenance of ledgers, registers and other records of initial entry, and preparation of periodic and special financial reports, budgets, and maintains fiscal records applying professional accounting principles and methods.
  • Assist in the preparation of daily EWTN cash counts and bank deposits.
  • Reconcile multiple bank accounts.
  • Prepare special account analyses and financial reports as directed by management.
  • Prepare and enter general journal entries and adjustments, with detailed backup; analyze variance reports; and assist in the preparation and maintenance of financial budgets.
  • Responsible for inter-organization transaction with related parties, including billings and reconciliation of inter-organization accounts.
  • Participate in the monthly financial closing process as directed by management.
  • Assist in maintaining the integrity and accuracy of all general ledger accounts.

ABOUT YOU:

  • You have a minimum of 5 years of prior accounting experience.
  • You have strong knowledge of GAAP, accounting principles and practices
  • You have excellent analytical ability to process routine data rapidly, efficiently and in accordance with prescribed goals and policies
  • You enjoy working collaboratively within a team environment
  • You are independent bearing with the ability to work with minimum supervision
  • You demonstrate a high degree of integrity and confidentiality
  • You have a strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Outlook, Excel and Word, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • You have operational experience with ERP systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics GP.
  • You have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • You present a professional demeanor with excellent customer service orientation.
  • You demonstrate good time management skills, including the ability to simultaneously manage several projects.

Administrative Assistant

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

Onsite in Irondale (Birmingham), AL. Not remote-eligible. 

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT THE BIG PICTURE:

As the Administrative Assistant for the Human Resources department, you’ll provide crucial clerical and administrative support that will directly impact our Human Resources programs which provide beneficial services and invaluable assistance to our employees. 

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Serve as initial contact for employees and answer general questions on policies and procedures, routing to appropriate person as necessary.
  • Receive and screen telephone calls, open incoming mail and route in a timely manner. 
  • Schedule department meetings via Outlook calendar and/or MS Teams.
  • Collect new hire paperwork and create employee personnel folders.
  • Maintain personnel files, I-9s, benefit and term files, and other files in accordance with internal policy. 
  • Help coordinate employee events including our Thanksgiving lunch, Christmas luncheon, ice cream socials, etc.
  • Assist with the Service Anniversary Awards program and prepare items for employee birthday cards.
  • Place orders for flowers and gift baskets for employee occasions.
  • Order and maintain inventory of office supplies, coordinate document shredding pick-up, etc.
  • Maintain office equipment & place service orders as needed.
  • Run various reports from HRIS (UltiPro) for VP of HR and others as requested.
  • Code & track invoices for processing with the Accounting department.
  • Other various administrative tasks within the department as needed. 

ABOUT YOU:

  • You have a minimum of 2 - 3 years of administrative office experience, including calendar management, arranging travel, and scheduling appointments. Prior experience working in a Human Resources department is helpful.
  • You possess strong computer skills with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), including ability to format Word documents, build simple Excel spreadsheets, create forms, fillable PDFs, and schedule Teams meetings.
  • You have excellent oral & written communication skills, with a professional and approachable demeanor and strong customer service skills.
  • You are able to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise discretion and good judgement.
  • You have well-developed organizational, prioritization and time management skills.

Art Director (Remote eligible)

ART DIRECTOR

Full-time, in Irondale (Birmingham), AL. Remote eligible.

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT THE BIG PICTURE:

You will assist the Sr. Creative Director in conceptualization of creative solutions that effectively communicate the strategic intent of each assigned product. This includes design and layout using state of the art computer hardware, software methods and procedures. These include, but are not necessarily limited to Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Quark Express. Knowledge of web development trends and software essential.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Develop creative concepts and graphics of assigned projects based on agreed strategy.
  • Understand the unique challenges and opportunities of each project and develops creative solutions across digital and traditional platforms.
  • Collaborate with Sr. Creative Director in planning, development, layout, and production of graphics, electronic presentations and of web related projects. Keeps Sr. Creative Director informed on a regular basis.
  • Work with internal teams to develop design solutions and presentations.
  • Coordinate and consult with departmental directors or appointed personnel as needed to execute projects.
  • Ensure image quality, editorial interpretation and graphic file size meet website requirements.
  • Coordinate printing requirements with printers to ensure quality and cost-effective delivery.
  • Research availability and costs associated with utilizing images from external sources (such as stock photography, fine art, etc.) in designs and production.
  • Art Direct or photograph images to be used in designs.
  • Ensure accuracy of all material prior to actual implementation.
  • Organize office supplies, images, and files.
  • Monitor industry trends and maintains current knowledge of emerging technology in site development.
  • Archive electronic files and maintains samples of web graphics.

ABOUT YOU:

  • You have a minimum 3-5 years of experience in the design field.
  • You have proven experience with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and InDesign in a graphics design environment.
  • You are organized with keen sense of detail, flexible and ability to makes adjustments quickly and with ease, follows directions, works well with others as well as alone
  • You have understanding of design restraints.
  • You have knowledge of HTML and web graphic optimization techniques helpful.

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT THE BIG PICTURE:

As the Associate Producer, you will work with the entire EWTN News Nightly editorial team to produce content with a strict deadline for a daily newscast.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Contribute to a lively, fast-paced newscast that includes writing news packages, voiceovers, teases, and discussion segments; assists in writing scripts for newscasts and TV news brief.
  • Act as fill-in line producer, as needed.
  • Assist in the producing of Rome/Vatican content.
  • Work with editors to facilitate production.
  • Watch and log video and sound for various events.
  • Communicate with production crew about executing the newscast.
  • Review and pull video for stories (packages, VOs, and discussions) and monitors AP wires.
  • Visualize and order graphics.

ABOUT YOU:

  • You have a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in TV broadcast news, producing newscasts in medium or large markets.
  • You are a practicing Catholic with demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the faith and EWTN’s mission, including how it relates to stories being covered.
  • You possess solid news judgement and attention to detail and accuracy.
  • You have the ability to visually and creatively tell a story and engage viewers using graphics and other elements.
  • You have experience utilizing broadcast software programs (i.e., iNews, AP ENPS)

  • You possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Booker / Planning Editor (Washington, DC)

BOOKER / PLANNING EDITOR

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT THE BIG PICTURE:

As the Booker/Planning Editor, you will research and schedule guests for discussion segments for EWTN News Nightly and finalize all necessary details between guests and the control room. The Booker/Planning Editor will also manage the newsroom’s editorial calendar and daily agenda.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Book qualified guests, conduct preliminary interviews, and conduct technical tests. 
  • Build and foster relationships with potential guests, press contacts, Congressional staff, and Catholic contacts in a professional manner.
  • Maintain and continue development of existing database of contacts.
  • Serve as host to visiting guests; greet upon arrival and escort through the News Nightly studio.
  • Manage daily agenda; communicate details to entire bureau to include a rundown of EWTN New Nightly daily activities.
  • Research potential guests and stories; pitch guest and content ideas to Executive Producer and ENN Editorial team during daily planning meetings.
  • Collaborate with team to assist in achieving relevant, compelling news content and presentation. 
  • Keep track of upcoming events, hearings, press conferences, and seminars in the Washington, D.C. area that may make for compelling segments.
  • Work with Senior Producer and ENN Editorial Team to manage calendar of current story coverage and timelines. 
  • Provide back-up support to Associate Producer and/or Segment Producer, as needed.

ABOUT YOU:

  • You have a minimum 3 - 5 years of professional experience in a Newsroom environment. 
  • You possess excellent organizational and time management skills with a meticulous level of attention to detail.
  • You exemplify exceptional interpersonal skills, to include verbal, written, and active listening skills with the ability to represent EWTN in a professional and engaging manner.
  • You have a solid understanding of the program’s focus and guests/stories that would interest our audience.
  • You have good computer skills including Microsoft products (Microsoft Office, Word, Excel) and A/P news software (ENPS preferred).  Experience with databases helpful.

Cash Specialist

CASH SPECIALIST

Full-time, onsite in Irondale (Birmingham), AL. Not remote eligible.

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT THE BIG PICTURE:

As the Cash Specialist, you’ll be responsible for analyzing, recording, and reconciling daily cash flow to ensure accuracy and completion of recorded cash activity for EWTN and its entities. 

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Count cash and checks, prepare deposits, and take deposits to the bank twice a week.
  • Record daily cash, credit card, and other online revenues for EWTN and its entities, and reconcile entries to Daily Cash Report.
  • Reconcile daily / weekly cash transactions for multiple bank accounts.
  • Perform and prepare monthly bank reconciliations for all bank accounts.
  • Monitor, maintain, analyze, and record miscellaneous revenue and other receipts.
  • Download and save all FIS/FID donation revenue spreadsheets and provide data.
  • Prepare Daily Cash Report.
  • Monitor returned checks or ACHs; create monthly data worksheet.
  • Prepare journal entries for returned checks and ACH donation returns.
  • Scan in all appropriate backup to cash entries in the general ledger.
  • Reconcile credit card revenue to applicable reports for all companies.
  • Prepare weekly summary of available cash for internal management review.
  • Perform comprehensive review of monthly bank analysis statements to determine the reasonableness of bank charges and fees.
  • Work with Financial Managers to resolve outstanding issues on bank reconciliation before month end close.
  • Assist with the completion of the monthly financial close process, which includes detailed reconciliation of all cash accounts.
  • Maintain strong internal controls for the safeguard of cash.

ABOUT YOU:

  • You have a minimum 1-2 years of experience working in a cash control or bookkeeping position.
  • You exhibit strong knowledge of accounting concepts and techniques and treasury management processes. 
  • You are proficient with MS Office Suite and internet banking applications.
  • You have solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • You have the ability to interact cross-functionally with employees, donors, and vendors in a professional and courteous manner.
  • You are extremely detail-oriented, organized, with strong analytical and technical skills.
  • You must be able to maintain absolute discretion and confidentiality.

  • You are knowledgeable of general ledger accounting systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics GP.

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT THE BIG PICTURE:

As the Content Strategist, you will develop and execute digital content strategies that will improve our online audience’s user experience across our digital platforms. You’ll use the latest in user-experience (UX) technology to conduct market research, identify the faith-based needs of our target audience, and shape our content to meet those objectives. Your contributions as the Content Strategist will help improve the user experience, therefore building deeper brand loyalty and increasing user satisfaction and philanthropic support.  

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Create and implement a digital content plan for delivery across web and other digital channels; maintain a master calendar/schedule with project deadlines and content launch dates. 
  • Conduct a variety of user research and surveys to determine faith-based content needs; stay abreast of latest industry developments regarding Search Engine Optimization, content taxonomy, metadata, content trends and consumer behavior.
  • Determine which formats best communicate various forms of content, identify methods of building brand awareness by conducting keyword research.
  • Create a content taxonomy; apply framework to redefine the metadata structure and tagging taxonomy.
  • Collaborate with content specialists, digital and social media teams, and freelance writers to produce and distribute engaging, meaningful, and personalized content to our users. 
  • Ensure content consistency across all digital platforms including websites, social media channels, videos etc; update older content to meet new content standards. 
  • Perform content audits to assess how well existing content is performing and content gap analyses to determine what type of content is missing and/or needed. 
  • Provide strategic content guidance in the development and launch of new content channels including the EWTN Online Learning Series, EWTN Learn App, and YouTube. 
  • Continue governance and optimization, with thorough documentation of audience research, content taxonomy process, and content strategies in support of department objectives.

ABOUT YOU:

  • You have at least 5 years of experience in digital content strategy and project management roles. 
  • You possess a working knowledge of Content Management Systems, keyword research tools, social media platforms, search engine optimization (SEO) and search engine marketing (SEM).
  • You have a grasp of User-Experience (UX) Content Strategy best practices and methods including content taxonomy, metadata, user research, etc. 
  • You are a practicing Catholic with an understanding of the Catholic faith and an affinity for EWTN’s mission.
  • You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Liberal Arts or related field.

Digital Media Specialist (Washington DC)

DIGITAL MEDIA SPECIALIST

Full-time, onsite in Washington, D.C. Not remote-eligible. 

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT THE BIG PICTURE:

As the Digital Media Specialist, you will report to the Digital Strategy and Social Media Director and will work with the anchors, producers, reporters, assignment editors to coordinate on-air, and online news coverage in the Washington, DC office. The candidate will create compelling content for digital platforms (including but not limited to websites, apps and social media), manage multiple social media accounts and execute the EWTN News Digital Strategy.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Execute strategies that build brand awareness and increase audience acquisition for the EWTN News shows and services.
  • Create multimedia content.
  • Review and copy edit content on a daily basis.
  • Management of social media accounts. 
  • Upload and execute search engine and social media optimization for EWTN News shows content on digital platforms (YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and others).
  • Create reports and analyzes data to measure progress and effectiveness of messaging and social media efforts.
  • Work with Editors and Media Managers to obtain photos and video content to accompany social media posts and website.
  • Work with Managing Editors, Executive Producers, Producers and Correspondents to create new/original content for social media posts.
  • Collaborate with international EWTN News colleagues across radio, print, and digital in different languages (Spanish, Italian and German). 
  • Stay current with social media trends, tools and best practices.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to improve processes and best practices.
  • Test new social platforms.

ABOUT YOU:

  • You hold a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in the field of journalism.
  • Supports the mission and teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, and the mission of EWTN News.
  • You are self-motivated, team player with the ability to generate ideas and exercise good editorial judgment.

As the Sr. Network & Systems Administrator, you'll take the lead in maintaining the operation, integrity, and security of EWTN’s Data Center, including the Server Farm, Storage Facilities, and Cloud Platform. Your watchful dedication will directly protect the organization’s value by keeping information confidential, and by maintaining the highest quality network for EWTN. 

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Assume responsibility for the operations of the Data Center(s) - to ensure server farm, cloud platforms, backup, and storage facilities are kept up to date by best practices. This includes: operating system upgrades and patches, 3rd party software patches, SQL upgrades and patches, firmware updates, and security patches.
  • Report on network performance, connectivity issues, and hardware issues. 
  • Analyze Application connectivity and performance within the server farm and 3rd party applications. Present metrics and make recommendations to the Director of Information Services.
  • Optimize network performance through analysis, and performance tuning. Troubleshoot network problems such as utilization, throughput, and latency. 
  • Maintain a secured network by following established IS Policies and Procedures and alert the Director of any violations (includes confidential information only known to the IS Administrative staff).

Technical Operations Manager

TECHNICAL OPERATIONS MANAGER

Full-time, onsite in Irondale (Birmingham), AL. Not remote-eligible. 

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT THE BIG PICTURE:

As the Technical Operations Manager, you will maintain overall functioning of On-Air Operations though efficient management of the Technical Operations Center and its personnel.  You will supervise & provide training to Technical Operations Center Operators.  You will assist equipment vendors and troubleshoot equipment failures. You will prepare detailed Technical Operations Center reports.  You will coordinate and communicate with Production, Promotions, Programming and Radio Departments to ensure that content for air is prepared and processed according to schedule.  You will collaborate with Engineering Department and applicable vendors concerning technology troubleshooting and issues surrounding Technical Operations Center equipment.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Supervise the activities of the Technical Operations Center and its Operators.
  • Review and resolve discrepancies in reports completed by Technical Operations Center Operators.
  • Serve as a point of contact between the Operations Department and Production, Programming, Promotions, Radio and Engineering Departments in relation to the daily functions of the Technical Operation Center.
  • Ensure channel continuity in regards to schedule changes due to adjusted durations of live programs
  • Delegate ingest of playback and archive material to Technical Operations Center Operators.
  • Train all Technical Operations Center Operators.
  • Implement plans and procedures, initiated by the Director of On-Air Operations.
  • Implement back-up procedures due to equipment failure. 
  • Approve timesheets for payroll processing for Technical Operations Center Operators
  • Answer telephone calls from signal distribution vendors and affiliates.
  • You will be available for periodic on-call availability

ABOUT YOU:

  • You must have previous experience with Television On-Air Operations systems components including automation, video servers, video switchers, graphics interfaces, and video archive systems hierarchical storage management systems.
  • A minimum two-year technical college or equivalent experience in Broadcasting is preferred.
  • You have strong understanding of signal path distribution systems utilizing both satellite and fiber optic technology.
  • You possess knowledge of personal computers and familiarity with Windows environment.
  • You have the ability to switch large circuit breaker for power system (up to 20 pounds of pressure).
  • You have the ability to walk outdoors regardless of weather and climb stairs on a regular basis, multiple times per day.
  • You possess good eyesight (20/20 corrected) and hearing, with no color blindness.
  • You are able to work flexible hours to include working on weekends, holidays and overnight hours.
