2020 Consecration to the Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart

Consecration of the Church in Portugal and Spain to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

In the context of the corona virus pandemic, Cardinal Antonio Marto renewed the consecration of Portugal to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. The Bishops of Spain, as well as Albania, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Slovakia, Guatemala, Hungry, India, Mexico, Moldavia, Nicaragua, Panama Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Kenya, Dominican Republic, Romania and East Timor, asked to be joined in this renewal on behalf of their nations.

Following is the text of the Consecration in the original Portuguese and in English and Spanish translations. 

PORTUGUESE

Coração de Jesus Cristo, médico das almas, 
Filho amado e rosto da misericórdia do Pai, a Igreja peregrina sobre a terra, em Portugal e Espanha, nações que tuas são, olha para o teu lado aberto, sua fonte de salvação, e suplica: 
— nesta singular hora de sofrimento, assiste a tua Igreja, inspira os governantes das nações, ouve os pobres e os aflitos, exalta os humildes e os oprimidos, cura os doentes e os pecadores, levanta os abatidos e os desanimados, liberta os cativos e os prisioneiros 
e livra-nos da pandemia que nos atinge.

Coração de Jesus Cristo, médico das almas, 
elevado no alto da Cruz e tocado pelos dedos do discípulo no íntimo do cenáculo, a Igreja peregrina sobre a terra, em Portugal e Espanha, nações que tuas são, contempla-Te como imagem do abraço do Pai à humanidade, esse abraço que, no Espírito do Amor, queremos dar uns aos outros segundo o teu mandato no lava-pés, e suplica: 
— nesta singular hora de sofrimento, ampara as crianças, os anciãos e os mais vulneráveis, conforta os médicos, os enfermeiros, os profissionais de saúde e os voluntários cuidadores, fortalece as famílias e reforça-nos na cidadania e na solidariedade, sê a luz dos moribundos, acolhe no teu reino os defuntos, afasta de nós todo o mal e livra-nos da pandemia que nos atinge.

Coração de Jesus Cristo, médico das almas e Filho da Virgem Santa Maria, 
pelo Coração de tua Mãe, a quem se entrega a Igreja peregrina sobre a terra, em Portugal e Espanha, nações que, desde há séculos, suas são, e em tantos outros países, aceita a consagração da tua Igreja. 

Ao consagrar-se ao teu Sagrado Coração, entrega-se a Igreja à guarda do Coração Imaculado de Maria, configurado pela luz da tua Páscoa e aqui revelado a três crianças como refúgio e caminho que ao teu coração conduz. 

Seja a Virgem Santa Maria, a Senhora do Rosário de Fátima, a Saúde dos Enfermos e o Refúgio dos Teus discípulos gerados junto à Cruz do teu amor. 

Seja o Imaculado Coração de Maria, a quem nos entregamos, connosco a dizer: 
— nesta singular hora de sofrimento, acolhe os que perecem, dá alento aos que a Ti se consagram e renova o universo e a umanidade. Ámen.

ENGLISH

Heart of Jesus Christ, healer of souls, 
Beloved Son and face of the Father’s mercy, the pilgrim Church on earth, in Portugal and Spain, nations which are Yours, looks to Your open side, its fountain of salvation, and beg You: 
— in this particular hour of distress, watch over Your Church, inspire the leaders of the nations, listen to the poor and the afflicted, exalt the humble and the oppressed, heal the sick and the sinners, raise up those who are bowed down and disheartened, release captives and prisoners and deliver us from the pandemic which besets us. 

Heart of Jesus Christ, healer of souls, 
lifted high on the Cross and touched by the disciple in the intimacy of the Upper Room, the pilgrim Church on earth, in Portugal and Spain, nations which are Yours, gazes upon You as the image of the Father’s embrace to humanity, that embrace which, in the Spirit of Love, we wish to share with one other according to Your command at the washing of the feet, and we beg You: 
— in this particular hour of distress, sustain the children, the elderly and the most vulnerable, comfort the physicians, nurses, healthcare professionals and voluntary caregivers, strengthen families and reinforce us in fellowship and solidarity, be the light of the dying, receive the deceased in Your kingdom, turn away all evil from us and deliver us from the pandemic which besets us. 

Heart of Jesus Christ, healer of souls and Son of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 
through the Heart of Your Mother, to whom the pilgrim Church on earth is given, in Portugal and Spain, nations which have been Hers for centuries, and in so many other countries, accept the consecration of Your Church. By consecrating ourselves to Your Sacred Heart the Church is entrusted to the protection of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, configured to the light of Your Paschal Mystery and revealed here to the three children as the refuge and way leading to Your Heart. 

May the Blessed Virgin Mary, Our Lady of the Rosary of Fatima, be the Health of the Sick and the Refuge of Your disciples born at the foot of the Cross of Your love. 

May the Immaculate Heart of Mary, to whom we entrust ourselves, say with us: 
— in this particular hour of distress, receive those who have died, encourage those who consecrate themselves to You and renew the universe and all mankind. Amen.
 

SPANISH

Corazón de Jesucristo, médico de las almas, 
Hijo amado y rostro de la misericordia del Padre, la Iglesia que peregrina sobre la tierra en Portugal y España - naciones que son Tuyas mira para Tu costado abierto, que es su fuente de salvación, y te suplica:
— En esta singular hora de sufrimiento, asiste a Tu Iglesia, inspira a los gobernantes de las naciones, escucha a los pobres y a los afligidos, enaltece a los humildes y a los oprimidos, sana a los enfermos y a los pecadores, levanta a los abatidos y a los desanimados, libera a los cautivos y prisioneros y líbranos de la pandemia que nos afecta.

elevado en lo alto de la Cruz y palpado por los dedos del discípulo en la intimidad del cenáculo, la Iglesia que peregrina sobre la tierra en Portugal y España - naciones que son Tuyas - Te contempla como imagen del abrazo del Padre a la humanidad, ese abrazo que, en el Espíritu del Amor, queremos darnos unos a otros según Tu mandato en el lavatorio de los pies, y te suplica:
— En esta singular hora de sufrimiento, ampara a los niños, a los ancianos y a los más vulnerables, conforta a los médicos, a los enfermeros, a los profesionales de la salud y a los voluntarios cuidadores, fortalece a las familias y refuérzanos en la ciudadanía y en la solidaridad, sé la luz de los moribundos, acoge en Tu reino a los difuntos, aleja de nosotros todo mal y líbranos de la pandemia que nos afecta. 

Corazón de Jesucristo, médico de las almas e Hijo de Santa María Virgen, 
por medio del Corazón de Tu Madre, a quien se entrega la Iglesia que peregrina sobre la tierra en Portugal y España -naciones que desde hace siglos son Suyas- y en tanto otros países, acepta la consagración de Tu Iglesia. 

Al consagrarse a Tu Sagrado Corazón, la Iglesia se entrega a la protección del Corazón Inmaculado de María, configurado por la luz de Tu pascua y aquí revelado a tres niños como refugio y camino que conduce a Tu Corazón. 

Sea Santa María Virgen, Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Fátima, la Salud de los Enfermos y el Refugio de tus discípulos nacidos junto a la Cruz de Tu amor. 

Sea el Inmaculado Corazón de María, a quien nos entregamos, quien diga con nosotros: 
— En esta singular hora de sufrimiento, acoge a los que perecen, da aliento a los que a Ti se consagran y renueva el universo y la humanidad. Amén.
