Angelus (22 February 1981)

Author: Pope John Paul II

On Sunday, 22 February 1981, the Holy Father led in the recitation of the Angelus in Baguio City (Philippines).

During this visit I had the opportunity to meet many sick people in these Philippine Islands; I was comforted by their smiles and prayers. However, before leaving, I wish to tell all those who suffer, or who are sick, how close I feel to them in prayer; I wish to reach you all in every home, in every hospital, in every corner of these islands, wherever you are, to assure you of my encouragement, but above all to consecrate you once again to the eternal love of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Many of you do not they were able to come here, but I pray that this message will reach each of you. Remember that Jesus, even in his moments of suffering, was comforted by the presence of the Father. He told us that his Father was with Him: I am not alone, He consoles me. He is with me,

My dear brothers and sisters, the same is for you: you are not and will never be alone, since Jesus and his Father are with you. But even if you feel alone, you will never lose this part of sacrifice that Jesus used to bring his dimension into the lives of many. Dear sick people of the Philippines, may the love of Jesus Christ sustain you in hope and in the realization of the great contribution you can make to humanity by uniting your sufferings with those of Jesus. May the Blessed Virgin Mary help you with her maternal love , and may she be a consoler for each of you in your affliction and the cause of your joy.
