Accountant

TITLE:                 Accountant

REPORTS TO:    Financial Manager

DEPARTMENT:   Accounting

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Accountant is responsible for performing a variety of standard, technical, accounting functions including analysis, preparation, and maintenance of routine and non-routine entries to the general ledger of EWTN. The Accountant assists in the preparation of interim financial statements, undertakes special projects and/or reports as directed by management, and works closely with management in preparation of annual audits by the independent auditors.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviews source documents used for accounting, maintenance of ledgers, registers and other records of initial entry, and preparation of periodic and special financial reports, budgets, and maintains fiscal records applying professional accounting principles and methods.
  • Assists in the preparation of daily EWTN cash counts and bank deposits.
  • Reconcile multiple bank accounts.
  • Prepare special account analyses and financial reports as directed by management.
  • Prepare and enter general journal entries and adjustments, with detailed backup; analyze variance reports; and assist in the preparation and maintenance of financial budgets.
  • Responsible for inter-organization transaction with related parties, including billings and reconciliation of inter-organization accounts.
  • Participate in the monthly financial closing process as directed by management.
  • Assist in maintaining the integrity and accuracy of all general ledger accounts.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years of prior accounting experience.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Editor-in-Chief works with the Executive Director to establish editorial content and related strategy and manages the editorial team to accomplish strategic goals.  Handles the overall editing responsibilities for all content for Catholic News Agency. Provides quality control on articles and documents appearing on the specified medium, ensuring they are theologically correct. Supervises the content that CNA delivers via social media, be it proprietary or from other EWTN partners?.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Formulates annual editorial calendar in conjunction with Executive Director. Ensures reasonably consistent editorial content with editorial calendar. Facilitates all possible integration with EWTN’s production calendar.
  • Reviews and manages editorial guidelines, policies, and related compliance.
  • Revises content as necessary in order to enhance its quality and approves pieces based on preset guidelines. Confers with others as necessary to provide expertise, content, and advice regarding bioethics, politics, Church History, Church events, moral theology, general legal, and canon law.
  • Ensures constant diversity (within bounds of magisterium faithful thought and charity) of perspective regarding coverage of news and approach to coverage (what to cover when, how, and from what angle).
  • Ensures proper and consistent catechetical consistency of news and other content.
  • Works with Executive Director to integrate EWTN News strategy and content with EWTN Inc., especially those related with the delivery of news.
  • Works with editors, writers, contractors, graphic artists and other personnel necessary to assemble and ensure on-time content.
  • Checks stories for legal, ethical and theological concerns and consults with Executive Director on questionable items.
  • Assists Executive Director and Director of Operations with editorial budget planning and manages the editorial budget.
  • Delegates responsibilities and sees that tasks are completed.
  • Periodically evaluates all editors and writers; advises on improvement as needed.
  • Does chief reads on all copy; compiles stories as needed.
  • May represent CNA/EWTN at meetings and functions as requested.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience in Journalism or consistent writing.
  • Extensive knowledge of and faithful practice of Roman Catholic faith.

Marketing Support Manager

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  Coordinates the organization and timely execution of assigned marketing support tasks and the development of ongoing relationships with individuals at exhibit companies and marketing support suppliers, affiliated and nonaffiliated media companies (i.e. distributors such as cable television operators, television and radio broadcast stations, direct-to-home satellite providers), volunteers, viewers, apostolate supporters, general public, and Church organizations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Assists in administration of Marketing CRM (Donor Direct); prepares data files for database upload; assists in training and supporting field staff on use of CRM; updates computer database of volunteers, parish and diocesan mailing lists,  distribution systems, and database extractions to generate targeted email campaigns and mailings (radio, cable, wireless, etc.) as needed.
  • Works closely with Regional Managers outside of the United States to support their ongoing marketing and operational needs.
  • Assists in development and execution of email marketing and web advertising plans, including evaluation of results and generating management reports.
  • Assists in the creation of annual department budget and monitors department budget for overages and prompt payment of invoices; prepares check requests wire transfers, and purchase orders for Accounting; reconciles monthly credit card statements and expense reports for international managers.

  • Coordinates large multi-departmental events, such as EWTN Family Celebration, including contract execution with venues, coordination with contracted venues, budgeting, communications among EWTN departments, developing promotion plans, arrangements with vendors, preparing timelines and other activities as needed; monitors expenditures to insure adherence to budget.
  • Cross trains with other Marketing positions to be capable of assisting with other duties whenever needed. 
  • Assists with internal communications, outbound communications (telephone calls, faxes, email, letters, mail) and receives and responds to (or refers) inbound communications from affiliates, non-affiliates, viewers, volunteers, vendors and other members of the general public in a timely and professional manner.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Producer will work with the entire EWTN News Nightly editorial team to produce content with a strict deadline for a daily newscast.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in a lively, fast-paced newscast that includes writing news packages, voiceovers scripts and discussion segments with experts in studio.
  • Line produce segments on national/international news that help viewers to understand the day’s news from a Catholic perspective.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The EWTN Production Assistant is responsible for the technical setup and operation of all audio related production functions in the studio or in the field, including interviews, music, voice-overs, telephone interfaces, roll-ins, and any other audio effects that may be required. Works in other production crew positions as assigned, including Technical Director, Floor Director, Camera Operator, Tape Operator, Video Operator, Teleprompter Operator, Grip, lighting assistant, etc.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates with the Director, Producer and Management on audio requirements and setup required for both studio and remote productions.
  • Sets up and positions microphones for talent, music and/or ambient sound as the production requires.
  • Responsible for proper selection and operation of all audio related equipment.
  • Maintains proper source levels (microphones, clip players, decks, telephone interface, CD, etc.) and relational perspective as production requires.
  • Files equipment trouble reports as necessary.
  • Assists in setting up and taking down sets and production equipment in the studio and in the field.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The EWTN Safety & Security Officer provides campus presence and surveillance to ensure the safety and security of all employees, guests and visitors.  Patrols network grounds on a continuous basis and offers assistance and information to the general public.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs campus surveillance by vehicle or walking to ensure security and watches for situations that could result in injury or loss due to potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Screens all vehicles at the Network entrances and monitors activity at or near assigned post.  Maintains a sense of vigilance for undesirable, dangerous, or counterproductive activities or individuals.
  • Monitors camera activity, fire protection systems and other devices from a control room and dispatches calls as necessary.
  • Relays critical information to other security personnel as necessary.
  • Provides accurate and timely written or verbal information/instruction to all vendors, visitors, pilgrims, or anyone conducting business with the Network.
  • Reviews and has personal knowledge of the Safety and Security daily postings and instructions.
  • Initiates emergency 911 calls as appropriate and directs emergency vehicles to proper location on site.
  • Administers First Aid, CPR, basic emergency assistance to employees and guests as needed.
  • Completes incident and accident report forms as necessary.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in TV broadcast/cable production or related field.
  • Proficient with robotic camera systems.
  • Experience with professional control room equipment, including switchers, tape operation, graphics, and teleprompter software and controllers.
  • Knowledge of Avid infrastructure a plus.
  • Electrical engineering knowledge/experience a plus.
  • Proficient at Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and other computer programs as required.
