husband & wives
Question from Michael Petrillo on 12/29/2004:

Dear Father John, I would like to know if the magisterium of the Church supports that "the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is head of the church." I have a hard time believing otherwise as this mandate is rather clearly promulgated in: 1 Peter 3:1-7; Colossians 3:18; 1 Corinthians 11:2-10 and Ephesians 5:21-25.

Thank you, Michael (Bayville NJ)

Answer by Fr. John Echert on 12/29/2004:

The traditional Church accepts this biblical teaching but many in modern times hide from it or reject it. If the husband is no longer head of the wife, then it would seem to follow that Christ is no longer Head of the Church.

Merry Christmas, Michael

Father Echert
