Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops
for Asia
On Sunday 19 April 1998 Pope John Paul II formally opened the
special synod for Asia. This Synod, which concluded on 14 May
1998, the Feast of the Apostle Matthias, brought together
cardinals, bishops, priests, religious and laity from throughout
Asia, as well as representatives of the Roman Curia. Following
are the most significant documents of the Synod. The final
document of the Synod, the Apostolic Exhortation Ecclesia in
Asia (The Church in Asia), was issued Saturday 6 November
1999 by the Holy Father in New Delhi, India. |
