South Pole Padre

"If you want to be closer to God, take a look at Antarctica before man gets there...."
In 1947, newspapers across the United States reported the startling news: A priest from the Archdiocese of Dubuque, Iowa, who had become a Navy Chaplain, had agreed to go to Antarctica as part of Operation High Jump. Father Bill Menster would become the first priest to brave the journey to the most inhospitable place on earth; the first to hold a religious service, the first to bless the frozen continent in a crowded makeshift tent in which he asked God for peace and justice for all the nations of the world.
