The Thomistic Response to the Culture of Death
Plus February Debuts and the Newest EWTN Home Videos
By Michelle Johnson
Have you ever wondered how the culture of death gained such a foothold in society? What happened to make things go so wrong?
People often talk about “must see” TV, but “The Thomistic Response to the Culture of Death,” part of a larger series “Thomas Aquinas in Today’s World,” really is a show you should record and tape and share with family and friends. (This airs early, 3 a.m. ET, Saturday, Jan. 28. If you can’t record it, read on for other ways to see it!)
The very personable Dr. Theresa Farnan, an instructor of pre-theology at Mt. St. Mary’s Seminary, interviews her highly regarded law professor father, Dr. Charles Rice, on three fascinating topics of vital importance: the philosophical origins of the culture of death, how to identify and respond to errors in the culture of death, and what we can do in our own country to build a culture of life.
Dr. Rice begins by focusing on an unholy trinity of “isms” as the foundation of the culture of death: secularism, relativism and individualism – and goes from there. (And you thought philosophy had nothing to do with everyday life!)
If you can’t record this episode, you can download the entire series – for free -- to your desktop or MP3 player from EWTN’s audio library at http://bit.ly/yKbPH5. You can also purchase the DVD from EWTN Religious Catalogue at http://bit.ly/wExEaZ.
Want to know more? Dr. Rice has written two books on this topic: “50 Questions on the Natural Law,” available from EWTN Religious Catalogue at http://bit.ly/w4ei2Q and “The Winning Side: Questions on Living the Culture of Life,” available through third-party book sellers on www.amazon.com.
