EWTN On Location: Learn To Defend Traditional Marriage – And Why You Must!
By Michelle Laque Johnson
People who promote same-sex marriage say the Catholic Church's stand that marriage is a sacrament that must be between one man and one woman is gay-bashing. Why, they ask, should it matter to you if two people of the same sex get married? Love is love, right?
If you don't know how to answer these questions, tune into "Marriage: Love and Life in the Divine Plan Family Conference," which was filmed live at Aquinas College in Nashville. (Airs 10 p.m. ET, Sunday, June 26; 1 p.m. ET, Tuesday, June 28, and 5 a.m. ET, Thursday, June 30 – exclusively on EWTN.)
This talk is part of EWTN's new series, "EWTN On Location," which showcases conferences and symposiums from around the world featuring some of the world's best Catholic speakers, scholars and theologians.
This first talk in the series, given by Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse from the Ruth Institute, looks at how same-sex unions and artificial reproductive technology are threatening marriage – and why that matters.
Dr. Morse has a boatload of both Catholic and secular credentials, which will make you eager to hear her.
From a Catholic perspective, she is founder and president of the Ruth institute, a project of the National Organization for Marriage, which promotes "life-long married love to college students by creating an intellectual and social climate favorable to marriage." She is also the Senior Research Fellow in Economics at the Action Institute for the Study of Religion and Liberty as well as the author of numerous books such as "Smart Sex: Finding Life-long Love in a Hook-up World," "Love and Economics: Why the Laissez-Faire Family Doesn't Work," and "Love and Economics: It Takes a Family to Raise a Village." Those interested in this talk might also want to check out her pamphlet, "77 Non-Religious Reasons to Support Man/Woman Marriage" and "101 Tips for a Happier Marriage." All of these writings and more are available from the Ruth institute, www.ruthinstitute.org.
In addition, Dr. Morse recently appeared as a guest on EWTN's "Faith and Culture" with Host Colleen Carroll Campbell to discuss promoting marriage on campus. A CD or DVD is available at http://bit.ly/lRUNB0.
However, this speaker's secular credentials are equally impressive. She can help you address the questions posed by your more secular friends with ease. Among other accomplishments, too numerous to mention in a short article, she served as a Research Fellow for Stanford University's Hoover Institution from 1997-2005, taught economics at Yale University and George Mason University for 15 years, served as a visiting scholar at the Cornell Law School, and has written for numerous publications from the scholarly Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy to such popular publications as Forbes, Fortune, and the Wall Street Journal. In April 2008, she presented at the Harvard conference, "The Legacy and Future of Feminism."
You do not want to miss this lively, engaging and intelligent presentation on a hot button topic.
And please stay tuned for the rest of this series, which features equally impressive talks from a pro-life symposium in Cleveland to a Rome symposium with Dr. Alice von Hildebrand, and much more. "EWTN On Location" will air at 10 p.m. ET, on the fourth Sunday of each month, with encores on the following Tuesday at 1 p.m. ET and Thursday at 5 a.m. ET.
God bless you Family!
