Series Name: Get A Life In Christ
Host: Fr. Benedict Groeschel
Date Produced: 1/30/1996
Description: The Prayer of the Hebrew Scriptures can best be seen in God’s Covenant with Abraham - God asked Abraham to do a very mysterious thing, to sacrifice his son, Isaac. In 1 Kings 19, God’s voice is a still small voice, as the wind. In Maccabees a Mother praises the faith of her sons as each and every one is boiled to death. This is the Prayer of the Hebrews Scriptures.

Host: Fr. Benedict Groeschel
Date Produced: 1/30/1996
Description: Many scholars today try to determine who the real Jesus is by rationalistic thinking, they are bound up in a rationalist way of looking at things. But Jesus is true God and true Man, utterly mysterious. It is stupid to try to look at God and Religion with deductive reasoning, you can’t make any assumptions about Divine power if you can’t prove it - and we can’t prove it. Rationalist deny the signs and wonders because they are prejudiced against the supernatural.

Description: People are confused sometimes by the profound mystery and meaning of the cross. They don’t want to think about it or look at it. How could that be the Son of God crucified? But only the True Son of God was obedient to the will of the Father - obedient unto death.

Description: If we are going to pray, we should try to pray the way Christ prayed - When He spoke to God, His whole being would be caught up in His prayer. At the Council in Constantinople, it was determined that Christ had two wills, a human will and a Divine will. The “human will” prays “Let this cup pass”, but united to the divine will of God, the prayer becomes “Thy will be done.”

Description: The Prayer of Jesus is the prayer of the High Priest, he prays for us that we may be united with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in Glory. It is mysterious and unimaginably resplendent . How can we be one with God? Only through Christ and the Cross can we come to the Resurrection.

Series Name: Get A Life In Christ
Host: Fr. Benedict Groeschel
Date Produced: 1/30/1996
Description: Years ago, Thanksgiving Day had a strong Spiritual component. Unfortunately, it seems that the more one has, the less thankful one can be. We don’t take time to say thanks to God for His many blessings. This is especially evident in the poor inner city - there is no great wealth or affluence, yet the poor are so grateful to God - they have great songs of praise and thanksgiving. We must also say prayers of Adoration - recognizing that we are mere creatures before Our Creator. “All things pass away, behold, I make all things new.”

Series Name: Get A Life In Christ
Host: Fr. Benedict Groeschel
Date Produced: 1/30/1996
Description: We all have sorrow, need forgiveness and healing - Psalm 51 is a perfect prayer for the forgiveness of sin. In the psalm , the speaker asks for more than forgiveness though - he says “teach me, fill with your joy, create in me a clean heart, give me back the joy of Your salvation.” Our Lord had an eye for sinners, like Peter, Paul , St. Augustine - but He called them to Himself and they became part of the foundation of Christianity.

Series Name: Get A Life In Christ
Host: Fr. Benedict Groeschel
Date Produced: 1/30/1996
Description: If a child asks for bread, does his father give him a stone instead? Just as you know how to give good things to your children, so The Father will give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him - For those who love God, all things come together for good - it may not be what we expect, but we must accept the Divine Will of God, and let God be our God. St. Therese of Lisieux said what God wants to happen will happen and the world cannot stop it - she is now a Doctor of the Church due in great part because she taught the total surrender of the self to God. So, prayers of intercession should always be a surrender to God’s will.

Series Name: Get A Life In Christ
Host: Fr. Benedict Groeschel
Date Produced: 1/30/1996
Description: The world can be saved by one thing only - that is to worship. Lexio-divine , Divine reading. We must prepare ourselves to pray by reading scripture, listening to sacred music - situating ourselves in a quiet place where we can begin a sincere and fervent invocation of the Holy Spirit. St. Francis prayed “Send the brightness of Your light into the darkness of my soul.” We have to determine a time to pray - is it best in the morning or evening? And when we finally begin to meditate, God will gradually reveal to us the disease of Self-Love , and once we recognize this, God will help us to exterminate it & bring us closer to Him.

Series Name: Get A Life In Christ
Host: Fr. Benedict Groeschel
Date Produced: 1/30/1996
Description: To become a contemplative, you have to give your whole self to god - Love is repaid by Love Alone. If we humbly rely on God and approach His throne, he may give us the gift of contemplation. Teresa of Avila described contemplation as “a close sharing between friends, to alone with Him who loves us.”
