Four Bishops Opted Out of National CCHD CollectionNovember 24, 2009 The annual collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) was taken up in parishes all across the US last Sunday. But four bishops, responding to the intense criticism of the CCHD for funding anti-Catholic causes, either chose not to participate in the nationwide collection or said that they would direct the receipts from their diocese to another charity rather than the national CCHD office. The four declining to participate were Bishops Robert Baker of Birmingham, Alabama; John Barres of Allentown, Pennysvania; Fabian Bruskewitz of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Robert Morlino of Madison, Wisconsin.
