VATICAN, Sep. 18, 00 (CWNews.com) -- As of September 17, Pope John Paul II had occupied the Throne of Peter for 21 years, 11 months, and 1 day-- moving him into 8th place among all popes in length of service.

On September 17, John Paul surpassed the tenure of St. Sylvester, who served from 314 to 335.
