COUPLE EXPECTING SEPTETS WILL NOT ABORT EMBRYOS

"We Accept All the Children God Gives Us"

TRAPANI, ITALY, JULY 6 (ZENIT.org).- Mariella Mazzara, 31, and Giovanni Pirrera, 32, a young couple from Trapani, are expecting septets and the mother-to-be is already in the 14th week of pregnancy. Mariella had undergone in vitro fertilization without success. And now, totally unexpectedly, though pharmacologically stimulated, she is pregnant without undergoing artificial insemination.

"We accept all the children that God gives us and, if the Lord wills, we will be given the grace to carry on with the pregnancy, there is nothing else to say," the future father said, when doctors suggested a reduction in the number of embryos.

"We suggested a reduction of the embryos, as there is the risk of losing all the fetuses," doctor Salvatore Pollina explained. But the mother rejected it.

"Who are we to decide which embryos should be eliminated? We hope for the natural evolution of the pregnancy," she responded.

The doctor said he was optimistic, "even if the chances of success are not great. "When I found 7 ovular chambers without having applied any fertilization technique I froze. I hope my surprise will continue," the gynecologist said. "This is beautiful work, but I have often faced great failures," he said, referring to his failed diagnostic center for the cure of infertility.
