MUSLIM ARRESTED FOR VANDALIZING CALIFORNIA CATHOLIC CHURCHES

LOS ANGELES, (CWNews.com) - A Muslim man has been arrested for allegedly vandalizing statues at Catholic churches in the Los Angeles area.

Emad Ibrahim Saad, 35, of Los Angeles was arraigned on Tuesday and is being held on $70,000 bail. Police say Saad cut off the head of a Virgin Mary statue, cut off the hand of a statue of St. Rita, and stole a statue of Blessed Junipero Serra at St. Augustine Church in Culver City on October 28. They said Muslim magazine were found at the church along with pamphlets that read, "Allah is the only true God."

Witnesses said Saad was trying to distribute Muslim tracts outside the church earlier in the month and was asked to leave.

Saad is also suspected of vandalizing statues of Mary at St. Anselm and St. Raphael churches in Los Angeles, and police are investigating whether he was connected to the vandalism of a tabernacle on October 30.
