CHRIST RESURRECTION WAS HISTORIC EVENT, STRESSED CARDINAL RIVERA

Mexico City, 25 (NE) Cardinal Norberto Rivera, Archbishop of Mexico, highlighted during the Easter celebrations the historical nature of Christ's Resurrection. During his Easter Vigil homily, the Mexican Cardinal stressed that the Resurrection "is not just a name, but it was real. It was not something subjective, nor an appearance, it truly happened".

We know that Jesus Christ lives and is with us, the Archbishop further explained, "a multitude of witnesses saw Him with their own eyes, they heard Him with their own ears, touched Him with their own hands. They had personal encounters, as when He was with them moments before dying". The original community had a clear conscience of the veracity of the Lord's Resurrection, and their faith was not merely symbolic, but founded on very solid facts, Cardinal Rivera said.

Afterwards, referrering to the danger of reducing Christ's Resurrection to a "fantasy", he stated that this temptation "is also seen today when certain people try to explain the faith of our country as growing from myths and legends, saying that there are no real historic foundations to support the Gospel we received".
