VATICAN CITY, August 22, 2013 (Zenit.org) - The Holy See will hold a Marian Day event for the Year of Faith on October 12-13th. The event, which is organized by the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization, will reflect on the theme "Blessed are you for believing!"
The Marian Day also coincides with the anniversary of the final apparition of the Blessed Mary to three shepherd children at the Cova da Iria in Portugal. The last apparition of Our Lady of Fatima was followed by the "Miracle of the Sun" witnessed by thousands gathered on October 13th, 1917. The sun moved its position and changed into various colors.
According to Vatican Radio, the original statue of Our Lady of Fatima, venerated by millions around the world, will be present for the festivities here in Rome. The Holy Father will receive the statue on the afternoon of Saturday, October 12th which will be followed by a Marian catechesis.
The statue will then make its way to the Sanctuary of Divine Love, where the Rosary will prayed and broadcast to every Marian sanctuary around the world. On Sunday, October 13th, the statue will be returned to St. Peter's where the recitation of the Rosary will take place, followed by a Mass presided by Pope Francis.
