Cardinal Bertone Celebrates Mass with Pilgrims from Radio Maria-Poland
Pollish Catholic Radio Station Celebrates 20th Anniversary
By Pietro Gennarini
VATICAN CITY, Nov. 8, 2012 (Zenit.org).- Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Vatican Secretary of State, addressed the members of Radio Maria-Poland who came to Rome on a pilgrimage yesterday.
The pilgrims came in order to thank the Lord for twenty years of Radio Maria's activities in Poland, and learn the faith from great saints such as St. Peter or the blessed Pope John Paul the II.
Cardinal Bertone welcomed the pilgrims who answered Pope Benedict's call to make special pilgrimages to Rome and the Holy Land throughout the Year of Faith. The pilgrimages, he said, "are a privileged expression of personal and communal faith, a witness to the love of God and to charity towards one's neighbor, and a sign of hope that life's journey finds its goal by allowing oneself to be guided by the merciful hands of the Heavenly Father."
Faith is above all "a personal encounter with Jesus Christ, the way, the truth and life" said the Cardinal, while stressing that in the modern day world, radio and television are an important tool for the New Evangelization.
The Vatican Secretary of State also took the opportunity to thank God for the 20 years of service that Radio Maria in Poland has done. "The Lord knows how much good has been sown in the hearts of listeners through common prayer, the proclamation of the Gospel, catecheses, information on the life of the Church and the live broadcast of papal celebrations and travels," Cardinal Bertone said.
In order to effectively fullfill this mission, he added, it is neccessary that those involved in Radio Maria be guided by the Holy Spirit.
The cardinal concluded his homily asking the intercession of the Blessed Mother and the Apostle Peter, so that Radio Maria may continue it's work in Poland "for the good of mankind... and of the Universal church".
