Is a Cohesive Europe That Forgets Its Christian Roots Possible?

Europe's Bishops, Delegates to Consider Basis for Social Cohesion

ST. GALLEN, Switzerland, AUG. 28, 2012 (Zenit.org).- What is social cohesion based on today? What are the elements which endanger it at the local and European levels? Is a cohesive Europe that forgets its Christian roots possible? And what is the Church's role?

On these and other issues the bishops and delegates from Europe's Bishops' Conferences responsible for social issues will reflect in the course of a meeting in Nicosia, Cyprus, next week.

The Sept. 3-5 meeting, called by the CCEE Commission for social issues, "Caritas in veritate", chaired by Bishop Giampaolo Crepaldi of Trieste, will gather about 30 delegates who will be hosted by the Maronite Archbishop of Cyprus, Youssef Soueif.

The meeting is organised as part of the activities promoted by the Cypriot Government on the occasion of the Cypriot Presidency of the European Union.
