Dublin Launches Walking Pilgrimage
Eucharistic Congress to be Preceded by Walk Through City
ROME, MAY 25, 2012 (Zenit.org).- The Church in Dublin will organize a pilgrim walk through the city as part of the preparations for the upcoming Eucharistic Congress.
The pilgrimage will run from June 2- 16, Vatican Radio reported, during the two weeks leading up to the Congress. Lasting about four hours, the walk takes pilgrims to seven important Catholic and Anglican sites.
According to Vatican Radio, the seven Churches will be: St. James; Our Lady of Mount Carmel; John's Lane; St. Ann's, Dawson Street; St. Mary of the Angels; St. Michan's, Halston Street; and St. Mary's Pro-Cathedral. Pilgrims, who can visit the churches at their own pace and in whatever order they so choose - they will be open from 8am to 8pm to accommodate visitors - will receive a "Pilgrim Passport" to be stamped at each of the churches. Upon reaching St. Mary's Pro-Cathedral, which will have Mass every day at 5:45pm, pilgrims who have completed their visit of all of the religious sites will be awarded a certificate to mark their completion.
The pilgrim walk through Dublin, says Vatican Radio, is partly inspired by El Camino - the pilgrimage to northern Spain's Santiago di Compostela - and partly inspired by the Dublin tradition of visiting seven churches on Holy Thursday.
