EWTN Catholic Q&A
Stem cell research the church's view
Question from Marina Monteiro on 03-19-2012:

Can you help me out with the church's view on stem cell research.

Answer by Judie Brown on 03-20-2012:

Marina

The Catholic Church opposes the use of embryonic stem cells because in order to use them for research and development, a human being must be killed. The human embryo is a human being.

The church does not oppose the use of stem cells that are found using ethical sources such as bone marrow, umbilical cords and so forth.
