Feeding tube
Question from MI on 11/5/2013:

What is our moral obligation in the case of an older dementia patient who refuses food? Are we required to force-feed with tubes?

Answer by Judie Brown on 11/9/2013:

Dear MI

Because each of these situations is complex and unique, you should consult with a trust spiritual advisor who would be familiar with the case at hand.

Under normal circumstances, however, food and fluid, nutrition and hydration are modes of comfort care, they are ordinary means and should not be denied.
