material contributions to the Church
Question from lito fider on 10/8/2013:

Does a Catholic faithful have any obligation to contribute materially (e.g. money) to the Church?

Is there any applicable rule here? How can a faithful know if he or she has given enough to the Church?

Answer by Richard Geraghty on 11/17/2013:

Dear Lito,

We are obliged to support the Church materially. But she has not laid down any definite rule like ten per cent of earnings. But we do know that putting one dollar in the basket on Sunday does not do the job. It is surprising to see how many Catholics think it does.

Dr. Geraghty
