Receiving Holy Communion
Question from Stephie on 4/16/2013:

How long do you have to fast before receiving Communion? Ever since I was little I have only fasted an hour, but while reading the Baltimore Catechism today, it says:

"All Catholics may receive Holy Communion after faster three hours from food and alcoholic drinks and one hour from non-alcoholic drinks."

Answer by Richard Geraghty on 8/18/2013:

Dear Stephie,

The rule is that all food and drink is forbidden for one hour before receiving Holy Communion.

Dr. Geraghty
