Distribution of the Eucharist
Question from William on 11/12/2012:

Was it always liturgically correct for the priest to give out the blood of Christ and relegate the giving of the host to extraordinary ministers? We take the host from the priest and we were confused if this was proper procedure so we didn't take Communion. We would like clarification. If the priest does this again, can we go directly to him and not take the host?

Answer by Catholic Answers on 11/16/2012:

William--

The priest ordinarily should be distributing the consecrated host, but it is not something you need to refuse to receive Communion over. You are also free to receive solely from the chalice if you wish.
