Linda We Catholics (or Orthodox either, though I cannot speak for them) don't have "idols". Nor are they worshipped---except by renigade Catholics. Look in Joshua 7:6f, where Joshua is bowed to the ground in front of the ark praying. Does God rebuke him for that under the impression that J. is praying to the ark? No. Was the ark Joshua's "idol"? No again. If you read Heb. 11:1, you'll see we are "surrounded by a cloud of witnesses". Witnesses SEE, are AWARE. We can ask for the prayers of the faithful departed because of that. Aren't we to pray always [2 Thess 1:11, 1 Tim 2:8]? If you think bowing down to something is always worship, what (being whimsical)the mattress god, you both knell to it & pray at night? And the table god in the morning, you bow your head seated at that (ok, this is a minor deity, you can sit to that one). Would it be fair to jump to the conclusion that you worship tables and mattresses? Nooo---it would not. So why conclude Catholics "worship" idols? We DON'T. NEVER WILL. And it's CATHOLIC TEACHING THAT IDOL WORSHIP IS VEBOTEN.
