Holiness
Question from Jim Morrison Jr on 8/13/2012:

In Plato's The Euthyphro, Socrates engages Euthyphro on the nature or holiness, what makes something holy? From a christian perspective what makes someone or something holy? What is holiness or the holy?

Thank you, and I await your answer.

Jim Morrison Jr

Answer by Richard Geraghty on 9/8/2012:

Dear Jim,

To both a Greek using reason and a Christian, a thing is holy, not simply because God or the gods say it is. It is holy in itself because that's what it is. The gods or God has made it that way. That is the reason why anyone would say that a thing is holy.

Dr. Geraghty
