the big bang
Question from JS on 4/14/2012:

Is the big bang theory possible?

Answer by Richard Geraghty on 5/29/2012:

Dear JS,

The Big Bang theory is that the universe started with a small mass of matter which exploded and sent particles out into space which account for the universe we see today. That seems to be the accepted theory today. But the theory says nothing nor can it say anything about origin of the material that exploded. That is a philosophical question. On the one hand we have the explanation that the material was present eternally. On the other hand there is the Jewish and Christan view that God created his material from nothing. The Church teaches that God created it from nothing. She does not teach how this material developed but as let that for the scientists to explain.

Dr. Geraghty
