LETTER TO USCCB
Question from CATHOLIC GRANDMOTHER on 2/14/2012:

Judie,

I sent the following letter to the USSCB regarding the HHS mandate as I keep hearing percentages of Catholic men and women who use contraceptives. I wonder if that is truly correct. We need teaching from the pulpit on these issues and the consequences of not adhering to these teachings. I feel that we should weed out those who are and have hurt the church, clergy, parishoners and Bishops. Also, to explain why contraception is evil.

Letter to USCCB:

I speak for myself as a Catholic grandmother and call on those Catholics that make donations to our churchs and organizations to find a way to make our government stop this attack on our Religous Freedoms and many other freedoms in our country. First, I would ask that our Bishops and Priests start getting tougher on Catholics that support these evils of contraception and abortions by "Excommunicating" those politicians that have played a role in these evils in society. Also, start from the "pulpit" and teach and preach the gospel by letting our parishoners know that they are excommunicated from our faith if they are participating in these evils. That if they receive communion while supporting these, their souls are in danger of eternal damnation. We do not hear this anymore in the church. Hell is not talked about as if there is only a "loving God" a father that will never damn his children. This is totally untrue and not part of the doctrines and teachings of the church. I paid for Catholic Education for my son in the 1970's and he does not have any understanding of the teachings of the church. Poor theology and catechesis has lead to Catholics not understanding the faith and Bishops and Priests with no backbone to get up and teach the "truth" of our faith. Abortions, contraception are not allowed by the Teachings of The Magisterium, always has been and cannot be negiotated. The ten commandments still apply. Catholics are confused today by thinking that the church is a "democracy" and they have their "rights" to pick and choose the laws of God as we do in Government. It's not the same. We, as Catholics, are freed by Christ, and we have the freedom to do the things we "ought to do". The church has allowed the "stench of the world" to enter our Holy Father's House since Vatican II. A gross misunderstanding and application of that doctrine. We as Catholics can decide to stop giving the church altogether unless the Shepherds start getting a backbone and bring back the beauty of our faith and proper teaching to our children. We have to stop taking any monies from the government and start finding ways to take care of our needs. The Primary Mission of the Church is "to save souls". Not be social workers and involved in every public issue. We are to feed the hungary, clothe the naked and give water to the thirsty. This is after saving souls. We are not to finance every single thing. The poor will always be with us. There will never be a time of no suffering. That is not the teaching of Christ. I hope my voice is one of many that starts to bring the darkness to the light which starts with our church Leaders. We need to clean house. God Bless and I pray for all the politicians. church leaders and the poor sinners that have been so mislead by our church these past 50 years. I am a poor sinner. My son has left the church, one of many kids of Catholic families. My grandchildren are not being brought up with any religion. The word "Choice" has become a real evil. Last, every bad behavior has a medical psyciatric term today. No body sins anymore. Everyone is "sick". Baloney. A Catholic Grandmother

Der Catholic Grandmother

The use of the 98% number to describe catholics who use contraception is patently false.

Here are the facts;

Data were gathered using in-person interviews with 7,356 women aged 15–44 between June 2006 and December 2008. So 7,356 women were interviewed by the Centers for Disease Control’s National Survey of Family Growth http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nsfg.htm (NSFG), among whom 28% were Catholic, and the study concludes that 98% of them took the birth control pill – so that means 98% of Catholic Women have taken the Pill???

In other words, of 7,356 women, 2,060 identified themselves as Catholic. Whether these were non-practicing Catholics or not we do not know. But based on this tiny sample of Catholic women in the USA it is all of a sudden a fact that 98% of Catholic women use birth control?

It's a lie, Catholic Grandmother. But as you so wisely point out, the fact that there is no longer any such thing as "sin" according to far too many in our Church and our culture does lead to the very mayhem we are seeing right now. God help us!
