Good Friday - holy days of obligation
Question from Teresa on 4/19/2010:

In your 4-2 response about holy days of obligation, you list Ascension Thursday. Most dioceses in the United States no longer observe the Solemnity of the Ascension of Our Lord on a Thursday. In most dioceses, it is transferred to the following Sunday (7th Sunday of Easter) and is now simply called the Ascension of Our Lord. The only dioceses in the U.S. that still retain Ascension Thursday as a holy day of obligation are: Boston, Hartford, New York, Newark, Philadelphia, and Omaha. If you reside in a diosces other than these six, then you will celebrate the Ascension on a Sunday.

In addition, you left out the Assumption - August 15, and All Saints Day - Nov 1. These days remain holy days of obligation in thre U.S. unless they fall on a Saturday or a Monday, when the obligation is lifted.

You list "New Years", but that is not the liturgical name for the feast. We celebrate the Solemnity of Mary as Mother of God on Jan 1.
