Hail Holy Queen Prayer
Question from Cynthia Feldman on 4/10/2008:

Why does EWTN omit the last two lines of Hail Holy Queen when reciting the rosary on the television programs. Omitted: "Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ."

Answer by Colin B. Donovan, STL on 7/2/2008:

First, some clarification regarding the Hail Holy Queen (Salve Regina). The prayer itself, like the hymn, does not contain the verse and response familiar to those who pray the rosary. These versicles are a customary addition, which like both the prayers before and after the decades, are not actually a formal part of the rosary, and vary from place to place. See Pope John Paul II's Apostolic Letter Rosarium Virginis Mariae.

Nonetheless, EWTN generally airs what is customary. However, in this case, the rosary was recorded elsewhere without these verses. Their absence certainly detracts in no way from the value of the rosary, as the Pope's teaching on the rosary makes clear.
