accidental spill of Precious Blood of Christ
Question from anonymous on 7/8/2007:

Dear Father, What is the correct procedure if The Precious Blood of Christ has been spilled onto a carpeted floor? Must the spill be handled immediatly or covered with a purificator and attended to after mass? Thank you so much for answering this and all questions!

Answer by Rev. Mark J. Gantley, JCL on 7/8/2007:

The General Instruction of the Roman Missal #280 states: "If any of the Precious Blood is spilled, the area where the spill occurred should be washed with water, and this water should then be poured into the sacrarium in the sacristy."

In the situation you describe, I imagine that at least some attempt should be made to sop up the Precious Blood immediately, and then it could be covered with a purificator so that a more thorough cleaning can take place after Mass with additional water.
