In response to the above poster's question, we can look at scripture and see that Jesus and the Apostle Paul both had occasions to address this issue. When Jesus was on trial John 18:19-23, he was struck by a temple guard, because he sort of answered a question with a question. Jesus questioned their reasoning for striking him instead of his turning the you, you whitewashed wall! Are you sitting to judge me according to the law, and yet contrary to the law you order me to be struck?" We do not have to accept abuse but we do need to be patient with others because other cheek. In Acts 23:3 Paul responded to his enemy, "God shall strike all are weak. We return a blessing when mistreated, misunderstood, etc. Christians are not to return evil for evil. A good resource on this topic is Fr. Emmerich Vogt's article "Turn the Other Cheek?" where he explains this from a Christian point of view, using scripture, saints examples, and writings from the Fathers of the Church.
