Communion anf Confession
Question from Margaret on 9/19/2009:

Thank you for answering my question.

Last saturday and this saturday I attmpted to go to confession. Both times the lines were long and the priest didn't have time to get to me. I arrived at the begining of the scheduled time and waited for an hour each time. This week I even tried to drive to a neighboring parish, but they weren't holding confessions this week so I didn't get in there either. i've tried making an appointment but I can't get past the secrataries who tell me to go during the scheduled times.

My question is can I take communion? Is there any provision in canon law for people wwho try to go to confession but can't through no fault of their own?

Answer by Rev. Mark J. Gantley, JCL on 9/27/2009:

Yes, make a perfect act of contrition and go to Holy Communion. This means that you are sorry for your past sins and are willing to renounce all sins in the future, and intend to confess as soon as possible.
