I am a cradle Catholic who left The Church for a while and I went to other Christian denomanations and now I am studying to be a Catholic apologist, I have been doing much studying using the Bible, the Catecism, Scott Hahn's online bible study on youtube and I am anwering quesitons for my protestant Christian friends anyway to make a long story short I decided to check out what Islams believe because I came across videos about Catholics converting to Islam, this kind of scared me I guess the way that they talk about the Quran (koran). How do I know and explain that the Bible is the inspired word of God and not the Quran? I guess I just find it discouraging that Christians can be somehow led to Islam or believe that they are led their by God. Please elaborate on this. Thank you and Thank you so much for EWTN, it helped to lead me back to the Catholic Church. God Bless. Sarah McCarron |

I suggest doing a historical study of Mohammed and Islam (and not from an Islamic source), which will reveal volumes. Mohammed was an orphan child some 600 years after Christ who claimed a series of revelations and then sought a following from Judaism and Christianity, from which religions he borrowed figures and ideas. Failing a following therein he found adherents among Arabs of the Middle East who did not have a clearly defined religion, and then sought to "convert" the world by the sword. Historically it is an untenable religion. Against all odds, without the use of violence, Christianity spread by grace and the Gospel; Islam, on the other hand, quickly resorts to violence and a demand for submission. That is the sorry truth that many want to deny, but it is a matter of history--and the present times as well. Having lived and served in the military in a number of Islamic countries, I can tell you that there is little or no tolerance for Christianity. There are some recently written books on the danger of Islam and while I do not have a title in mind at the moment, do a Google search for any written by Catholic authors. Thanks, Sarah Father Echert |
