Few are saved...
Question from Kevin on 6/22/2012:

Hi Father, I read that sermon you posted. Quite scary. I suffer from severe OCD, addictions. I go to confession regularily, but I can't make any promises not to sin again beyond 24 hrs or so due to my ingrained bad habits and OCD condition. I make my best effort, however! After I read that sermon, I became dishearted and thought to just give up. I don't have a prayer to be saved. I'm to mentally sick and weak. Could this thought be from the devil. I think so! Keep me in your prayers. Thank you...kevin

Answer by Fr. John Echert on 7/3/2012:

Kevin:

I hesitated to post that sermon, in part for the reason you note and suffer from. But there are too many who are on the opposite extreme, who assume most or all are saved, which is a VERY dangerous assumption, given what is at stake. There is an old saying, "in medio stat virtus." in the middle of two extremes is usually the balance. You clearly want to do the right thing and are doing what is sacramentally required towards that end. TRUST the Church. The two extremes are Presumption and Despair. Seek and pray for the middle course...hang in there with your personal cross to carry.

God bless,

Father Echert
