Eucharist
Question from Catholic on 5/6/2009:

Hello Father, What would be the proper thing to do if the Holy Eucharist should fall to the ground while receiving? Is it ok to pick up the Eucharist from the floor and consume it? I am asking as a lay person. Thank you very much for your time. Catholic

Answer by Fr. John Echert on 5/7/2009:

It would be preferable to let the priest--or extra-ordinary minister--retrieve the Host. Personally, I wish we would use Communion Rails for the distribution of Holy Communion, as it is very RARE for any such accident to happen, especially when altar boys are using pattens to catch any Sacred Particles or a Host. In all my years of using a Communion Rail, only once did a Host fall to the ground.

God bless,

Father Echert
