Sodom, Gomorrah & Gibeah
Question from Jeremy on 5/5/2009:

I was just reading in the book of Judges (ch19) about "the Levite" who traveled through Gibeah and how his host had a similar experience to Lot. I.E. the townspeople wanted to 'abuse' his male guest. My questions are, how do these two stories relate to eachother? They seem so similar. Do they both refer to homosexuality? Or do they speak of what we can expect from greater society when we harbor holiness? Thanks for your response! Jeremy

Answer by Fr. John Echert on 5/7/2009:

They both speak to outrage and rape, though in the case of S&G there is also the element of perversion, for which reason the entire population of both cities was destroyed in a most violent manner.

Thanks, Jeremy

Father Echert
