Rebuking the Devil

I know that Mother Church forbids lay people to perform an exorcism on a possessed person. I certainly accept that. But what about rebuking the devil during a temptation, as Our Lord did when He said, "Begone, Satan, for it is written...." Are laity allowed to address demons in that way when tempted, or is that also forbidden? Thanks and God bless!

I am not aware of any prohibition for doing this. I would do it in the Name of Jesus, such as, "In the Holy Name of Jesus I rebuke you (or reject you). At the same time, be careful not to start a war with the devil that could escalate. The prayer to the St. Michael and the Rosary are most powerful weapons...
