Question from Donya on 6/18/2012:

Romney is a Mormon, which means he has no religion. So I'm so scared to vote for him. At least Obama is a Protestant therefore a lesser evil. Will I sin if I vote for Obama?

Answer by Fr. John Echert on 6/21/2012:

Based upon a number of things, there is no way that I regard the current President as authentic Christian:

Among the most radical abortion proponents, including supporter of letting babies who survive abortion be starved to death

A support of "same-sex" marriage who imposed upon the military a requirement to be open to active homosexuality

An opponent of freedom of religion and conscience, as evident in his plan to force the Church to provide abortifacients and contraception

Judge the men according to their fundamental moral stances and let their personal religious affiliation or claims be secondary, is my own personal advice. I doubt we could ever get a true solid Catholic into office under these conditions, so what is morally acceptable and also in accord with our constitution? I think the choice is clear as to whom NOT to vote for in this next election...

Thanks, Donya

Father Echert
