Body of Christ on a crucifix
Question from Diane on 6/12/2012:

How do you answer someone who asks, "Why do Catholics have the body of Christ on the cross? Isn't the cross sufficient?"

Answer by Catholic Answers on 6/14/2012:

Diane--

Perhaps you might respond, "Why do American artists depict Nathan Hale being hanged (examples)? Isn't the noose sufficient?"

A cross without Christ is merely an execution device. It is Christ who gives to the cross all its redeeming value.
