Frequency of confession
Question from Johnny on 10/15/2009:

Kindly tell me which one is better, to confess immediately after committing sin or to let a few days or a week to pass before confession? I observed that when I confess immediately, the cycle of sin is somehow broken for a while and it takes some time for the sin to recur. However, I just feel that it seems insincere to confess the same sins everytime. What do I have to do? Right now, I have stayed away from confession for months, and it seems it made me worse. Please enlighten me.

Johnny--

Mortal sins should be confessed as soon as is reasonably possible. Venial sins, if you choose to confess them, can wait for your next regular confession. In deciding how often to plan to go to confession, you should discuss that with your confessor.
