Why do I have to live alone?
Question from A.G. on 10/16/2009:

If God said in Genesis "It is not right for man to live alone," then why is the only choice I have as a homosexual to live a life of celibacy?

Answer by Catholic Answers on 10/16/2009:

A.G.--

I'm afraid you are mistaken both in your understanding of Scripture and in your understanding of the moral expectations for homosexuals.

1. The Scripture passage is not saying that each and every human being must live with someone else. It is stating a general principle that man is a social creature and ordinarily needs companionship. That does not mean that every single human being must live with someone. And it also does not mean that those who do live with others must have a sexual relationship with another person.

2. Homosexuals, like everyone else, are called to chastity (CCC 2337), and not necessarily to celibacy (CCC 2349). Chastity is a virtue to which every human being is called according to his individual state in life; celibacy is a gift, both on the part of the individual who offers his life to God and on the part of God who enables him to do it.

I very much recommend that you more closely study what the Church really teaches about chastity and homosexuality before you dismiss out of hand the possibility of following the Church's teaching on the issue.
