Question from ruth on 11/1/2009:

Hi Dr. Could you tell me the full extent of truth to the following statement:

"early Christianity adopted many pagan festivals in various countries as a means to promote the new religion to pagans. Hence Christmas has its origins in pagan midwinter festivals such as the Roman Saturnalia and Easter is deeply embedded in pagan tradition." THANKS, RUTH

Answer by Richard Geraghty on 11/1/2009:

Dear Ruth,

The Christian feats had their own source, the teachings of Christ. They uses elements of the pagan feasts. It was not the pagan feasts that were responsible for the Christian feasts.

Dr. Geraghty
