Re: God Had No Beginning
Question from Jimmy on 11/2/2009:

There have been some questions as to whether God had a beginning. Question #14 of the Baltimore Catechism, is:

14 Q. Had God a beginning? A. God had no beginning; He always was and always will be.

Dr. Geraghty, I am really surprised that Catholic children have not, for decades now, been taught the straight forward facts such as the above. It was required to memorize that question and answer (and much more) when I was seven years old and attending catechism classes. Jim

Answer by Richard Geraghty on 11/4/2009:

Dear Jim,

Yes, the catechism was a big help. But it is still good to understand WHY God cannot have a beginning. Believing in the word of the Church is a good thing. Know that and the philosophy behind it is even better.

Dr. Geraghty
