post marital sex (2nd. request)
Question from RF on 11/4/2009:

I have some friends who were married in the catholic church and are divorced. But they are still dating and having sex. They say they are still married in the eyes of the church because they have not had their marriage annulled and if they are not seeing anyone else, than in is ok. Please tell me how to approach them if they are wrong, and I think they are?

Answer by Richard Geraghty on 11/4/2009:

Dear RF,

They are right in saying that they are still married in the eyes of the Church. Divorce is a civil matter. I suppose that if they wished to get married again, they would have to get a marriage license again and have the ceremony again to make things legal. It sounds like a very odd situation that might cause confusion and scandal. Why don't they marry again and save all the confusion?

Dr. Geraghty
