holy communion
Question from MH on 11/24/2012:

do i have to go to confessions first if i have committed a mortal sin? I was told i can aks God for forgiveness and then go to communion - I did this - and then at some point make a confession - but am I cnfessing what i asked God to forgive me for - to me that's like doubting God

Answer by Richard Geraghty on 1/6/2013:

Dear MH,

I suppose your conclusion is that since you do not want to doubt God, you will have the doubt the teaching of the Church that you must go to confession to get absolution from mortal sins before receiving Holy Communion. But doesn't the Church speak for God. Isn't that the Catholic belief?

Dr. Geraghty
