Effect of baptism
Question from PJ on 10/18/2009:

When one is baptized the Church, echoing St. Paul, states that he becomes transformed into a new creation.

Yet, we still have mortality, passibility, and concupiscence after baptism; and regarding the soul we still have an imperfect clouded mind and an imperfect weakend will.

Therefore, what exactly is transformed and made into a new creation? If it is not our body, and not our soul - both tainted by original sin - then what within us is restored and made perfect at baptism in order to restore our relationship with God?

Answer by Richard Geraghty on 11/1/2009:

Dear PJ,

When we are baptized original sins is removed from our soul which, since the soul informs the body making us one human being, removes original sin from us as a whole. That means the Holy Trinity takes up residence in us, imperfect as we are. That is certainly a significant change, is it not?
