God's "mistake"
Question from Kathleen on 10/19/2009:

The older I get the more I can't understand God making this world if there was going to be so much suffering and evil and injustice and death. God is good and the more evil the world is - the more it looks like God "goofed" when he let this all happen... If He truly loves the saint and the serial killer alike isn't this a really twisted existance? As evil as the world is - are we really making choices any more or isn't each generation less responsible because of the lack of morals and no sense of goodness? Evil rules and each generation has less of a chance of learning goodness but God loves them all even though they have no sense of the original plan? This is mind boggling that people are still loved by God but the world is so evil that they have little chance of heaven. Is this whole thing a divine "mistake"? God forgive me.... but I wonder silently - why not ask?

Answer by Richard Geraghty on 11/1/2009:

Dear Kathleen,

Evil is mind boggling. It is a great mystery. Page through the psalms or the prophets and you will her them making the same observations as you. See how they answer it. It calls for patience and deep thought. That is why it is a triumph of faith to still insist that God is good. The devil would have us think and feel otherwise.
