St Thomas Aquinas for today
Question from Richard Litzinger on 10/19/2009:

Dear Dr. G, I have read two books recently about the writings and thought of the Angelic Doctor. One is by Matthew Fox, entitled SHEER JOY, and the other by David Berger, called THOMAS AQUINAS AND THE LITURGY. I was quite impressed by St. Thomas' speaking of the goodness of creation and also about the mystical vision he had in the last year of his life, which caused him to cease writing. Do you know of any other good books showing how St. Thomas' thoughts are applicable to people today? Thanks! Rich L.

Answer by Richard Geraghty on 11/3/2009:

Dear Richard,

You will have to watch out for Mathew Fox because he is a ex Dominican outside the Church today. But he does get it right about the connection between St. Thomas and the glory of creation although he puts many unCatholic thoughts upon it. There is one book I really like called Theology and Sanity by Frank Sheed. It is based very much on the thought of St. Thomas and is quite readable. Any suggestions out there for books about Aquinas that would be helpful for beginners?

Dr. Geraghty
